Water mixing and Water Top Off Tanks...Can I see your setups?

Hey...wondering if you some of you local guys/gals have any pics and advice on best water setup, holding tanks, process, etc.

Just got an RODI unit and want to have an easy semi-perm way to have my holding tanks setup and plumbed the right way to both mix salt water, and have fresh top-off water for evap.

Thanks...
Matt

this is my setup. I custom installed the laundry tub. The RODI sits in there. The output tube can be directed into either of the garbage drums. one hold saltwater. the other holds limewater. the limewater drum is connected to an auto top off, and gets automatically dosed into the tank. see http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1317247 for more pics.

i have the luxury of a lot of space back there. what's your setup like?

I use 2 x 44gal rubbermaid brute containers. One for mixing SW, one for FW. The FW vessel also has a large kalk reactor that sits inside with a float valve to shutoff the incoming RO water when the vessel is full.

The SW mixing vessel I fill with FW from the FW vessel with a pump. The SW vessel has a 300watt heater & a mag 5 pump for mixing the added salt.

I use two 30 gallon cans one for saltwater mixing. one for water changes. With a line at the top of them so I know how much water I took out. All I do is open a ball valve "off my main pump" to the empty one to the line then I just fill it up with the ready batch of saltwater the is at the same line. I never come short on water when I do a water change.

I'll share a couple pictures of mine,,

Here is my RO/DI unit................the Raw RO/DI storage 2-55g drums......................... tranfer plumbing

Salt mixing barrel.......RO/DI water is transfered over head by pump, and comes out of a valve above salt mixing barrel....

Wow, glad you mentioned in your signature you were TOTM! I just took a read thru that and your tank was awesome! I say "was" b/c wondering if you relocated to Mke from Omaha area? The pics you posted of your H2O look different.

Could you explain a little about the pic? Are the tanks plumbed into your tank or RODI? I couldn't tell from the pics.

I just got an RODI and now plan to setup some type of water holding/mixing things this week in my fish room.

Thanks again all for posting...appreciate more ideas on this.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes the TOTM had to be taken down a couple years ago due to a relocation from Omaha to here. Everything was sold or donated from the system. This time around I'm doing sps.

To answer some questions about the ro/di. Since I'm on well water now and the tds was very high (1200 ppm) I was told that co2 becomes a factor. I'm not 100% sure if I understand everything about the high readings other than co2 will exhaust di resin very quickly. So in order to get the most out of the 20" DI catridges (I run 2 in series) I set up a degassing tube. You can see the white pvc pipe on the left hand side of the picture. I run the ro water through this pipe (air stone in the bottom and through bio balls) into the brute tub on the left. When that fills up I run that water through both DI cartridges into either the saltwater or top off container. I do not have an automatic top off yet so everthing is manual right now but I'm home alot so to me it's no big deal. For water changes I just turn the valve at the bottom of the Brute and fill buckets and dump into the sump (about 5' behind the photo). Works pretty well. So far with this set up I can continue to run zero tds water even though my starting point is very high. Hope this helps.

The 10g tank on the top left if the RODI Top Off. The 40g on the top right is my change water tank. Both are fed from the RODI system via float switches.

Quick update: Coated 1/2" plywood with 3X coats of spar varnish, then screwed it to the concrete wall and hung the RODI on it.

I'll reroute the lines and such to clean that up, and I plan on putting a couple of containers to hold the fresh and salt H2O to the right of the sink on a stand I'll build later in the week.

Thanks everyone for all the inputs, ideas, etc
