Water movement - make it simpler
Hi all,

I have at the moment 5 powerheads comprising of a mixture of lph,
1 x 1100
1 x 500
1 x 600
1 x 900
1 x 380 lph

and an empty Fluval 403 which is 1000 lph and a Deltec MCE600 Skimmer.

Four of the five powerheads are on a System 2000 wave module.

As you can imagine there is quite a lot of noise from switching powerheads and because there are so many.

I want to simplify it as much as I can. The fluval is empty and is going through a spray bar behind the rocks but it adds lots of air bubbles during its maintenance so I was going to remove it totally. I can run carbon/ Rowaphors etc in the skimmer when needed.

I wanted to run say the maxi 1100 lph through the spray bar andthink about replacing all the other PH's with a Tunze and a controller.

Questions are, does anybody have just a simgle tunze on a 4Ft tank and if so how does it work out. Do you get a good spread of water flow ?

Is this a good idea to go to a single Tunze with controller ?

Any other ideas on reducing the amount of equipment in the tank and what do others do in a 4ft tank ?

Thanks

Ali

Is this the 75 gallon? What corals/anemones do you have? I think we can get rid of all of them, FWIW spraybars are basically worthless and I wouldn't think you would need that either, they greatly reduce output of the pump

Yes its a 75gal.

I have a few corals, Sinularia dura Leather, Mushroom Rock, Parazoanthus gracilis, Caulastrea curvata, Pulsing Xenia, green star polyps and an LTA. It was white and about 3 - 4" across, 2 yrs on its over 12" across and very purple. Seems to enjoy varied water flows quite happily.

I would like to get red of as much stuff from inside the tank as possible, I hate the wires and room it takes up as well as the horrible switching noise of the pumps.

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Get a 7400/2 with a single controller. Add the following spare parts 1001.76 Tube, 1001.79 Strainer and 1001.80 T piece. This will give you 4000 l/hr with pulsing and control over the pump output and you will use the T and strainers and tube to extend the intake below the rock work, this will create a suction which will more or less take the job of your spray bar- only in reverse. The intake will also be gentle and being behind the rock this will be virtually anemone proof.

Paraquatics is the only one on my head but if you check on Tunze.com they should have the dealers listed though it is probably outdated and their are many more.

I can not find any suppliers here in the UK for that purticular model.

Would a 6000 with a single controller be to much ?
Could I adjust it so it never actually goes to full tilt ?

The 6000 is a bit dangerous for anemones. Otherwise it would have been my recommendation but it is dangerous.
