Water quality

I've got a quick question on the type of water that I'm goign to put in my tank.

I know most people us Reverse osmosis systems. At home I'm using well water and I wanted to know if you would still recommend an RO system since nothing is added to my water (chlorine or anything for that mater). It is filtered when it comes into the house to remove sand and minerals.

What do you think?

Unless you have a recent chemical analysis of your well water use an RO/DI system. Wells are usually high in minerals, silicates and possibly phosphates and nitrates if there are septic systems close by.

exactly! well water can be worse than city water because it hasnt been filtered, and treated.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure. Getting one was in my plans, but I was just making sure I needed one. Now I'm for sure going to install one. I just don't like the water waste they produce. Oh well.

you can use the waste water for watering plants, washing cars, etc. theres a thread going somewhere right now about that.

Now just what would be in the waste water that is not there all ready. Just a higher concentration of what was there to start with. So the water should be safe to use on anything. Right.

i wouldnt drink it, but its safe. your RO unit wont add anything to it.

Even though TDS is about 20 to 25% higher than tap its still probably just as good as a Brita or Pur turns out. It has been through a sediment/particulate filter and carbon filter so it good enough to drink if it was safe to begin with.

If you are really concerned about the waste water you could by a special booster pump that forces waste water back into the hot water line (so the cold fresh line keeps getting fresh water not recycled)

This way you have a system that has NO waste water..
Don't know the cost on that but it's a thought..
