Water Softener???

I recently purchased a RO/DI filter from "The Filter Guys". They hooked me up with an awesome unit and it would be awesome to use....but I didn't realize that the warranty would be void if you have water harder then 7 grains per gallon (ours is about 30 grains per gallon). That means I need a water softener. Anyone know of anyone with a good deal on a water softener?

Just hook it up man! Their units are solid, i really doubt you will ever need the warranty. But if your set on getting a water softener hit menards, home depot, or lowes.

I was thinking about getting one for my house as well, really havent gave it much thought lately though. It would be uber cool to not have hard water and rust stains on all of my stuff.

BTW:what unit did you get?

Got a Culligan Estate Series I got from a former coworker for $50. He didn't use it once they switched from well to rural water so I got a great deal on it.
And the thing is HUGE.

Craigslist is a good place to watch in the free or general sections...if you are set on new, the GE ones are pretty nice...

Well I didn't want to post it and look like a complete idiot but I did hook it up and have been using it for about 3 days now. I have to say I was really pleased with the level of service these guys gave me. I am not sure if I have hooked it up right. I have a random pressure gadge that I am not sure how it is supposed to install. I hooked it up to the last connector that I could and the pressure slowly built up but I am not sure what the point of that is unless just to make sure your system is creating pressure. I also noticed that it comes out really slow like drip by drip every once in a while I will get a steady stream for about 10 seconds then it goes back to dripping. Don't know if I have something hooked up wrong, have bad pressure in our pipes or what but it works and I am happy.

I think I need to buy a used one because after spending about $700 on fish stuff so far and I still don't have my tank running yet, I can't afford a new one. I can't even afford the live rock I need yet. I guess I have just put all my purchases on standby for a while and just work on cleaning up all my used parts I bought.

Auctually- random tidbit, the water softener puts an ion on the water that is stripped easier by the RODI unit. YOu will be able to get much closer to lab grade pure water (that is very ph unstable) with a softener.

The pressure gauge should be used on the initial inlet tube shouldn't it guys? The idea is the measure the pressure coming into the unit. Someone correct me if I am wrong, I don't actually have a pressure gauge myself.

I rent mine from Culligan for about $20 a month but they install it for free and free service. But my water was at 80 grains.
