water storage

I keep RODI water in a 20 gal bucket with a small maxijet 400 in there for water movement. I never really empty and clean the bucket Just add water when its low. Tonight I felt the sides of the bucket and its kinda slimey in there. So I plan to clean it with vinager and rinse it out before I use it again.

How oftern do people clean there storage barrles or is there a trick to do to not have to clean it. ?

while I am here I also use 2 5 gallon jugs that I cannot see in or fit a hand in. I usually use the jugs to store water for changes and the 20 gal barrel for top offs. How do I know my 5 gallon jugs are not slimy inside?

I don't clean mine, and they are slimy as well. I don't know if it's anything bad, actually I never thought about it before!
