water temp

I usually keep mine in the 78 range, but after I got my water flow fixed and bigger pump in, it stays in the 79 range. I was just wondering what other people prefer to keep their tanks at and what people think the best temp is for a reef tank. I personally don't like to be in the 79 range, but I know it's safe. I also read that there is a new study still in progress that some damsel fish become more aggresive in warmer waters. They were doing this study to see how fish will react to a temp. change since the ocean waters are warming up. So who would like to go first and tell me how they like their water!

Having spent a LOT of time in the water diving, that is more customary of what I have seen. Sure, there are temperatures out there that greater, but I have been doing this a while (1991) and that is what works for me.

What about a flucuating temp? say from 77 in the morning to 79 during the day then back to 77 at night. Would that be unhealthy or not have any effect on the tank?

That's good to hear. I usually have it between 78 and 78.8, but now that my water is flowing better and with a bigger pump it stays in the 79's unless I turn a fan on it. Just seeing how everyone else is keeping their prized pieces comfortable

I have kept mine as low as 74 degree's with no problems. I like to keep it around 76-78
I guess i could keep a bandit in that temp.

I might Truro keep it around the 76 77 range but my light is right above the water so it warms up very easy

During the winter, I target 75-79 during the summer 79-83.

That's because my filter system is in a shop space that is barely heat controled. The corals definitly like it cooler IMO. The fish are fine in all ranges so long as the swing is 4 deg F per day and changes slowly.

I have a fan that blows on my tank during the day to keep it steady. When I upgrade my lights they will be hanging and probably won't have to deal with that anymore

77-80 here and everything does great. I would believe consistency is the key as well.

Mine fluctuates with the seasons. From a high of 78/79ºF in the middle of summer to 70/71ºF in winter. Day to day, it's much more consistent, probably fluctuating a total of 2ºF.

My temp ranges from 84-86. Dont have a full blown reef, just a couple of anemones. The fish dont seem to mind the temp.
