Water Temperature

Hello Everyone,

To treat ick I raised my temperature to 85-88. Today I wanted to lower the temperature back to normal, but I see that with the blessings of God my fish looks extremely happy. In one of the online resource I read that in the wild the water temperature is 90+.

So my question is, shell I bring down the temperature or leave it on the current settings.

Personally I don't like to run my temp that high, doesn't leave much margin for error and lowers dissolved oxygen levels.
Also not sure elevated temps are effective for treatment of ich.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but the fish probably looks happy because it's just in between waves of ich and is getting a bit of a break. Read up on proper treatments for ich in the "stickies" here on the site; elevated temperature is not one of them and as DDon mentioned lowers the dissolved oxygen levels in your tank - which is the opposite of what your fish needs at this time.

IMO, raising the temperature does not effectively treat ich. But I do know there have been claims about the high temperature increasing or speeding up the life cycle for ich and something happens eventually...I don't know the facts.
One thing to keep in mind is that as the temperature increases, so does the salinity. Which in turns make it harder for the fish to breathe. I would think that the fish will be less happy with high temp rather than average/normal temp.
I keep temp at 79, but my tank goes any where between 78-81.

First, raising temperature has no positive effect on eradication of ich. Secondly, raising temperature decreases dissolved oxygen in the water which for a fish with ich in the gills is a bad thing to do.

In one of the online resource I read that in the wild the water temperature is 90+.

In regards to reefs, this is incorrect.

BTW, the whole raising temperture to treat ich comes from the fresh water ich parasite. It doesn't work for the SW ich parasite, at least not for temperatures that are also survivable for the fish...

Thank you everyone.

I know the raising the temperature will not treat the ick. I just did to speed up their cycle. I keep changing my filter sock every other day, and I can see a very good outcome.

Reg the recommended temperature, I was just making sure about the about the info I got on the internet. anyway as per all your experts advise:artist:, I have set the temperature back to normal, 78°F.

I need to ask one more thing about my Butterfly. I'm posting it separately.

Thank you all again.
