Water Test

OK so I did my water test. Been running about 4 hours now. I have no leaks any were :eek1: . Totally shocked by that one as I never do plumbing.

Some points I learned. First I had my pump wide open and it damn near sucked my return section dry  . That wasn't good. So I did adjust that with the valve. No problem there now.

Second I turned off my pump to check the amount of water flowing back to my sump..... Damn near near overflowed my sump. So some adjustments were needed there. One was the durso tubes in my overflows were pushed all the way down. Fixed them and checked it again. Much better but still a little high for me. So the second adjustment was the flex returns in the tank. I had them way to far below the surface of the water. Adjusted them so they are closer to the top. Turned off the pump again.... Ta Da that worked perfectly. Raised the volume of water in my sump about 3 inches. Still have plenty of room left.

Now on to my question my drain lines coming from the tank to the sump are 1" in diameter. They are about 7 inches below the water surface of the sump. They gurgle and have crazy air bubbles. I assume thats from being so deep in the sump water? What should they be. Not above the water level right? That would be just as noisy. I'm thinking they should be about 1" below the surface? I don't hear the overflows or anything, pretty darn quite except the drain area in the sump gurgling. Any ideas?

And last how long should I leave this water test? I have read that some people leave it 24 hrs? But heck if it don't leak after 3 hours it isn't going to leak is my thinking. Lets get some salt water going! :D

I have my durso's set so that the overflow of water is really only 1".
you can put the drain lines just below the sump water surface... I have my flex hose doing a long sweeping 90 so it is actually horizontal when it reaches the sump.... I then put a 45 on the end to force the water down... things should also quiet down once some slime forms, and slow down once it's salt water.... not sure how your pump could drain the compartment faster than it fills once the system reaches equilibrium

I further adjusted my durso's and I'm now about 2" more into my sump. I can live with that. So I'm all set there.

Now for the gurgling drain lines into the sump. No matter how I route them. Straight down, 45% angle, or even almost horizontal. I still get the crazy bubbling/ gurgling from the drain lines. I even cut them down some so they are only in the water about 1" now. That didn't really help. I'm wondering if its because the lines are 1" ID tubing? Would putting a reducer on the end of the lines make a difference?

I'm running straight water in it now but I wouldn't think Salt water would make a difference would it? Any suggestions...

Doing a search on the forum turns up several threads with gurgling 1" drains. Seems they all end the same way. Everyone recommends a "sock". Anyone have any experience with them. I know you have to change them like every other day from reading about them.

Neoz, I have tons of live sand that I'll be tossing tomorrow. Sounds like you're ready. Come pick some up if you'd like. I should be around much of the day Packing for the move:(

Thanks sir, I believe I'll take you up on that offer and stop over later this afternoon.

As for my gurgling I think I'll try my smaller 9.5 Mag pump instead of the Mag 18. See if that makes a difference.
