well I have the basic liquid chemical test kit.... I noticed there are a lot of special pinpoint monitors for whatever it is you are trying to figure out..... atm I use a refractometer for salinity and the chemicals for ammonia, ph, nitrates, etc ... is it necessary to buy any of the special pinpoint monitors for any certain reading or are the chemicals fine?

The Pinpoint monitors are nice to have and are pretty accurate but I myself have used basic test kits for years and Now i only use SAlifert test kits and they are pretty accurate.

A pH meter is more handy than a test kit, in my opinion, since it can handle a larger range and can be checked fairly easily for accuracy. I have the PinPoint salinity monitor and like it better than my refractometer, since it's more precise. The refractometers are fine, though, if calibrated with the PinPoint 53 mS solution.
