water use

Alot of people will pooh pooh it, but I have used it numerous times myself with no ill effects. I am actually thinking of running a hose into my mixing tank from my dehumidifier to try it out.

water

Just my 2 censt worth, tap water in a reef tank is very, very bad...............

technially dehumidifyer water is pretty pure, but it collects every vapor, dust partical floating around in your home. better than tap water yes.
I would only use RO water.

hi i am wondering if it would be better to use the distlied water out of my de-humidifier insted if just tap water
I would advise against using it as the water is condensing on a coil while air is blowing through it. Even though there is a filter element in front of it you are still going to be pulling alot of dust on through. I really think you would be better off to either buy your water from yoru LFS, buy a RO/DI unit (which is cheaper in the long run), or find your water for your tank through other means.

Just as a test, when I get home from Las Vegas next Friday I am going to run test on my dehumidifier water to see TDS, metal content (for those that I can test for), and any other test I can run on it.

I agree, not the best idea, most condensing coils are copper, so while it would be a small amount, their is a chance of long term copper build up in your water, not to mention the other things that can get in there.

Stick with either distilled or RO/DI water.

I just thought of this great idea to tell if you should put a certain water in your tank...

Would you drink it? If that question makes you cringe more than thinking about drinking your local tap water why would you add that water to your tank? :p

I certainly wouldnt put anyting i drink into my tank, except maybe the vodka:D

From past experience, I just wouldn't use anyting but RO/DI water. When I first got into this hobby my information source was not very knowledgeable, but since he owned the pet store I assumed he was. Trying to fight with the algae is bad enough, trying to guess what is actually in your water supply in terms of agricultural run off, heavy metals, chemicals like choloramine, etc it is just too risky.
