Wave Box cause this nightmare?

Wow I have had a wonderful morning.

Was coming down the stairs headed to work and I looked at my 210 and it was only half full!

The 210 is an All-Glass. It is only a few months old.

After a furious morning and Rod being the cool guy he is and doing an emergency visit we have everything in rubermaids with powerheads.

My carpet is soaked, my storage room is soaked, it is not a pretty sight.

The leak was on the side at the bottom. Almost directly below my new wavebox. I heard these can stress a tank a bit more then normal. Do they do that much damage they can pop a seam in a couple months? I loved the wave box but now I am going to be scared to put it back in.

I am sorry you had a rough morning but I can pretty confidently say the wavebox was not the cause, it may have accelerated something that was innevitable though. We have sold a few thousand by now and we have had only one other report, from Poland and the aquarium was hand made and the silicon had not properly cured. If I had to guess, I would say the aquarium had a flawed seem or the stand was not level, this is really bad if it is not level on the diagonal, a torqued aquarium can fail quickly. The wavebox probably only made what would have happened in 6-12 months happen in 3. I would not let it keep you out of the hobby or keep you away from the wavebox, these things happen I have had Oceanic aquariums run without waveboxes fail and it is just bad luck.

What a terrible mess and nightmare and I'm sorry to hear about it.

My thoughts are along the lines of Roger's, there had to be something structurally wrong with the tank to start with. I've been running a Wavebox since the day they hit the market 2 or 3 years ago. I know many friends (local and otherwise) that use them and never heard a story like this.

Although a minor part of your problem, what is AGA's warranty policy? Is it only valid if you use their stand?

I am using their stand. Bought it at the same time.. Not sure how it could not be level. The stand seems real straight.

Right now All-Glass is being a pain. They will not let me drive to their warehouse and swap out the tank. I am driving the tank to my LFS where I bought it right now so they can inspect it and then they will try and have one delivered tomorrow. I am not sure my livestock will make it much past tomorrow. Powerheads in rubermaids is not the best for all this SPS.

Gulp. I've never once checked the diagonal with a level. Not even sure how to do that now things are all set up, or what I'd do if it were a bit off (how much off is bad???)

Canar, keep the temp in reasonable range, and with powerheads they can be ok for more than a few days. Sand would be more of a problem but the fish and corals ought to be ok in general.

Basically if a tank leans forward or to one side a small amount, say 1/8", it is usually not a big deal. But say it is high centered and both ends are not in level contact with the floor, or it is high in two diagonal corners, the result is a twisting stress on the tank and this is a big problem. You really need to check the floor for this with a long level 4ft or longer is better and see if it is low or high in the center. You can correct with shims. When I ran my shop we had a tank that we replaced 3 times before figuring out the floor dipped on two diagonal corner legs and this was the cause.

I don't want to hijack this thread at all. With a tank set up already, though, no way to put a level on that spot on the floor. old house, one spot ain't the same as another. I am certain all 4 corners are on the floor and don't think there is a problem but others will find your post useful, Roger. Thanks.

Agree with you 100% Roger. Tanks fail like anything else.

Well lets see how bad the snow screws me now. The only way I can get a new aquarium before next week is to drive to Wisconsin tommorw and pick it up. GPS says it is a 2.5 hour drive. The snow will probably dictate longer. The things we do for our hobby.

Wish me luck the snow does not get too bad.

I am glad to hear about the wavebox. I will make sure we tripple check the stand for level before we fill the new one.

Unless I hear back from them before 9AM tomorrow saying no.

The LFS I bought it from said it looks like the glass cracked by the seam. They had to fill out a form and fax it in and then send pictures. The LFS told me it definately looked like a defect.

I have not been called with the 100% your good to go with the new one yet. I plan to be in Wisconsin tomorrow morning and I will leave with a new tank

There is nothing they can say. There is not a single nick in the calk. I bought the stand and the tank together a few months ago.

Man what a bummer to walk into that room and see the wall with no tank

I heard that All-Glass/Oceanic is having quality control problems from a LFS that carries all-glass and perfecto tanks. They have had more problem with all-glass tanks than before. I have an all-glass and I cant believe such a great company is building flawed tanks. I dont have a problem with mine but anything is possible I heard that perfecto/marineland has a great warranty for 65+ gallon aquariums of 20 years if purchased with stand from perfecto.. I hope they replace it for you otherwise their customer service is terrible. Good Luck keep us posted.
