Wave Box

Good day all!

I wanted to know if anyone who has one of these could let me know the Plus and Minuses of using them?

I am planning on about a 600g (96"x36"x36" aprox) mixed reef setup with mainly SPS within the next 3-4 months and am having a tough time on deciding on how I would do my flow.

My main question is if someone has a link to a video of what these boxes can do in a tank and if they indeed do move the water from top to bottom and keep detritus build up from forming on the bottom in an 8 foot tank that is about 36" or so deep.

If this cannot keep the subtrate with adiquate flow over it in this type of seytup I would like to know before I make such a purchase.

Thanks in advance!

Gary

Please, I would like to have some knowledge on the waveboxes and see a possible video of what these can do in an aquarium with length on it of 8 feet.

Thanks,
Gary

Ok, I guess the best way is to go with a closed loop system then. Thanks for all the replies and intrest!

A sequence dart should get me going in the right direction with a OM 4 way and another for my return system. This should give me the flow I would need in a 600g reef system. I will post up in another forum when I start my build.

Thanks again,
Me

Sorry for the late reply, I was at MACNA. There was an extensive thread of people postibng videos that you may try to search for and Google searches would also turn up numerous videos.

Ok, thanks for the response.

I found a few vids, heres one ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuVL6nYEqmc ) and the of the waves seem a bit fast, is this the norm? I also noticed that there was a slushing sound .. I really want a very quite system and this is why my plumbing to my pumps will be in my garage in a seperate place.

Can this sound be stopped? Is it overflow or the Tunze getting the return wave back into it? or both? Is there a way to deaden the sound?

On a 600g tank 8' long, I am guessing I would need two Tunze, next to each other or on opposite sides of the tank? And can you get the wave to go slower? Like the wave but it seems to fast for my taste.

Would a CL system work with these? What about the return from the sump? And what kind of turnover can I expect to be produced from these? (not that there is any scientific need for exact turnover)

If you were starting a brand new tank from scratch would you recommend these for your system or would you look another way. Keep in mind this si going in my entertainment room with my hoem theater system and I REALLY don't want any sound being generated from my tank.

The wave frequency will be slower on an 8' tank but it isn't going to be like watching waves roll in on the beach.

I'm using a double wave on my 6' tank to avoid overflow surging. It produces no noise at all. While I had it running with a single wave, the only noise was produced by water sloshing into the overflow. I have supplemented the wavebox with a 6100 per the tsunami thread to increase the wave amplitude. Down the road I'll probably swap it out for a second wavebox.

The wave frequency is pretty fast but I'm not using it to faithfully recreate an ocean wave. In fact, I didn't like the appearance of the 1.5" single wave. The wavebox produces water movement in areas and ways that I couldn't get my two stream 6100's to do no matter where I placed them. The streams and wavebox work together very well.

You would need two waveboxes but they could be placed side by side. If the overflow box is centered on the back wall you get far less noise, durso pipes also help greatly.
