WAVE box ???

I plan on setting up a 180 RR tank and was going to have some holes drilled in the back for a closed loop.
My thought is not doing the closed loop but instead using the TUNZE Wave box.

My questions are.
Do I need to use anything along with the wave box or can I use it
by itself for operation?

How does this affect the dual overflows?

The wave box is supposedly good at lifting detrius into suspension in the water column.
You will need some pretty decent flow to lift it up and into the overflows apparently.
Something such as a Stream Pump.

I have an AGA 180 myself and am also curious about the dual overflows will handle it in reality.

I am willing to find out first hand too. :)

As Sean said, on a reef ready 180 the wave height is 3/4" and outside of splash the overflows work fine and a durso pipe will quiet the splash over.

Can this WAVE BOX be used by itself or do I need something else to make this work like a controller of some sort?

Is it available yet for purchase?

I heard it would not be ready for the market until the end of the month.

Is this true?

Yes, the first 20 arrive next week. I do expect though that with the existing preorders everything I get this year is likely sold.

So it sounds like that there may be a waiting list or are there going to be many more made available soon or after the holidays?

I was planning on sometime in Feb or March.
Should I put in for one now?

Biodragen, I think it would be best to put in for one now. I was promised 100 before the holidays and the possibility of 150-200max. After the holiday the factory reopens on the 4th I believe and then the first week is just bookkeeping and inventory so actual production and shipping don't usually begin until mid January. I think demand will shoot up once the first feedback is out but I believe at present about 60-70 are spoken for.

Mike, the wavebox really should be used with the Streams. As Sean said, the effect is all the water is moving but only back and forth and a linear motion to carry the suspended detritus to filters and overflows is necessary but much less would be required than without the wavebox.

Just go on-line to a retailer....they have the wait lists. Premium, Marine, Champion...etc.. Roger doesn't maintain them.

BTW, all the prices are the same, so choose your favorite or call them and find out who has the shortest waiting list.

Next week? :D :D :mixed: I'm GIDDY with anticipation.

Can someone explain how they work? I tried looking on premiumaquatics.com but I didnt really understand the description. You said it produces a wave? My over flows are only about an 1" from the edge wont the water splash over? Sounds awesome though...

You cannot adjust the frequency- only the size. Each tank has a natural frequency and that is the only frequency that will work excepting tanks longer than 6 ft where a double wave is possible.

They shipped yesterday, I expect that next Monday I will have them. It is a really large shipment even though their are only a few waveboxes and as a result it gets a double check- customs in Germany and customs in the US and that caused a delay.
