Wavebox...48x24x30

Hi Roger,

Manged to borrow one of the wave box's in Australia from the distributer. Placed it in my tank and the max wave was only 1 CM. It seemed the wave box needed to pulse faster to get a bigger wave.

I understand that the pump is a 6200, but is using a 6100 transformer. Would i get a larger wave if i switched to a 6200 transformer?

Cheers

bushwick,

On a 48" tank you should be able to get 2 to 2.5 cm. I have a 72" tank and can get 2.5 cm. My Wavebox controller is set to around 11 o'clock on the dial. for a 48" tank it should be set a little "earlier" on the dial.

Your idea about the 6200 transformer is interesting. It could work on a shorter tank. But on a longer tank with a longer "on" cycle...I think the Wavebox would empty completely and cause a micro-bubble problem. If there was a way to increase the water volume of the Wavebox it might work better.

If you still have the Wavebox on your tank, try adjusting the timing some more (set earlier than 11 o'clock} and maybe experiment with the placement as well.

Yes, you should just need to adjust the timing. They definitely can pulse faast enough for a 4ft tank. The transformer will make no noticeable difference because the pump is not on long enough to draw full power, in a longer pulse it would work but the risk is as Luis said, microbubbles.

Many thanks guys for your input, i will give it another go. I had the pulse set at maximum, but as i reduced the pulsing time the wave got smaller and smaller.

Roger, i was testing one of the original demo models that where sent out to the distributers before they where released to the public (like the one that you took to the shows). Has there been any adjustments made to the models that are currently available to the public (IE they pulse faster).

I have seen a tank here in Australia where they are using the 6200 transformer on a 8ft tank. The wave is a lot bigger and roll's a lot more (if that makes sense). They had no issue with micro bubbles (guess they where lucky).

Thanks again for the input.

Cheers

OK, the original prototype version could barely turn on and off fast enough for a 4ft tank, mine can only do 4ft minimum. I do get a good 3/4" wave though- about 1.75cm. It is possible it won't work. On a 4ft tank the big transformer really won't make a difference, on an 8ft tank it would give it more umph. It would be able to rev up to use more power in the longer pulses. Their are some tricks to eliminating the microbubbles with how you orient the pump screen inside, it is also possible the pulse ended just in time to not take in any air.
