wavebox 6208

I have a wavebox 6208 arriving tomorrow and have a few questions.

1. I've read somewhere you are supposed to remove the cap on the comline box for proper function. Is this the case?
2. I have 2 6105s on a 7095 multicontroller. Can the wavebox be run through the 7095 to sync everything up?
3. What would be the best placement for the supplemental 6105s?

Thinking a front corner is the best placement for the wavebox as I have two hang on overflows centered in the back and the rockwork is really close to the back wall. Rockwork runs the length of the tank (72"--125g long) and max height is about 6 inches from the water level (~15" high) on both ends of the tank. Rockwork is about 6"-8" from the front glass (tank is 18" wide).

4. Is this the best placement of the wavebox?

Hoping to replace the gyre with the wavebox as I am tired of dealing w/ it every few months. Will this be sufficient to do so in a 125g long tank?

Appreciate it!

1) No, we do sell an optional surface skimming cap but that increases noise and is only recommended if your sole source of surface skimming is the 6208. The top of the box should be above the water line so it can take in air.

2) With the 7095, you have to use the included 7092 and then you can connect the slave cable of the 7092 to the 7095 after setting the internal jumper to external on the 7092. This only adds the ability to alternate between two waveboxes or pumps and wave boxes and is not generally used except on very large tanks.

3) I would run the 6105's in Interval 2 on the 7095 and run the wave box stand alone on the 7092, place a 6105 in each back corner of the tank aimed to hit the front 5ft away and placed about 6" from the top.

4) You should have more than enough flow, I would place the wave box on one side of the tank aimed down the length and it should be in a relatively unobstructed area, from what you describe it sounds like near the front so a minimal of obstacles are between it and the far wall.

Appreciate it!

Just a follow on from #1: I didn't meant the top cap but the little circular plastic cap on the back of the unit near the lower magnet. Someone said removing this made the unit operate better--were actually able to get a wave after removing. I assume that hole is for an alternate use of the comline box--like a filter--and should not be removed for the wavebox.

Ah, OK, yes that is where the heater would generally go in the filter or the air hose on the skimmer, I don't think removing it would change anything unless it is submerged too deeply to being with.

Well, I got it today and got it set up in the tank. All I can say is I'm impressed. Saw how small it was at first and was worried. Pump magnet was stuck for some reason so I had to disassemble and re-assemble. Getting a wave of about 0.75" give or take. Does this sound like the max achievable for this size tank? W/ the fine tune it is hard to tell if I am helping or hurting but I think I am at least 80% of the way there to peak resonance.

Set pumps up as you suggest on interval 2 w/ 3 second pulses between 40-60%. Thinking to put the interval around 6 hrs to simulate tides. Is this pulse strength good? May bump the max up to 80% but want to see how the SPS in front of them react first (2 are currently placed about 1ft from the new pump placement).

Gyre will probably be up for sale shortly.

The wave is the biggest you will get when it is a perfect see saw and the wave stays constant if it gets a bit bigger and smaller you are close but not quite. With corner overflows 3/4" is likely the biggest possible as the wave loses energy spilling into the overflow, 1" might be possible without corner overflows.

I might do 30-60 as the wider the pulse the more diffusion you get, the idea is to crash a fast pulse into a slow one so a mushroom forms of a broader pattern. The wide flow housings on the 6105's will give you a more gentle flow (lower velocity).

Thanks.

Got to 1" by changing the jumper to the 24V jumper. I tried a higher pulse on the 6105s yesterday but reverted back to 60 as the close SPS were happier with that. Looks like I am set now.

Sorry about that, I should have mentioned that, the 6208, 6055, 6095 all ship preset to 20V, 24V is max flow.
