Wavebox 6215

Hello,
I just got a 6215, looking at the manual there is a sponge on the bottom of the box, what the purpose of that foam? Can I remove it as I don't want it collecting detritus and I don't really feel like cleaning it out every other week...

Without the foam the pump will bang around inside and make a lot of noise, It is not a filter in any way, very little detritus should accumulate in it.

even if properly supported by the 2 large O-ring on each side?

Both orings belong in the back, behind the front of the box. You are free to try it, but I promise you it is there for a reason, the wavebox is not a filter, there is no major concern of it becoming a detritus trap, in fact if there is enough detritus to be an issue the pump will likely jam necessitating removal anyway.
