wavebox and overflow

I just set up a new 250 and have a wavebox ready to go in it, but I'm wondering if I first need to make the slots in my overflow (a center overflow) a little bigger. The water level is a little less than an inch away from the top of the tank, and want to make sure i'm not gonna spill all over. The wave on the 200 I have with a wavebox in it is pretty big. How deep should the overflow slots be?

I would want room for a wave of about 1.5" if possible.
