wavebox caused stand and glass failures

Hi there,

I just got my Nano Wavebox and I've gotta say I'm floored by the water movement. In my 110 gallon (60x18deepx24 tall) I'm getting an inch to inch and a half wave and the movement throughout the tank is incredible.

I do have a bit of a concern though, in the owners manual there was a page cautioning about the excess forces placed on an aquarium and it's stand. I was hoping somebody could elaborate on what kind of stresses we're talking about and maybe some warning signs (short of a soggy carpet). I have an older tank and a home-made stand and that warning page has me a little spooked.

As long as your stand level, tank properly build (not DIY) you shouldn't be worry about it. Some said it will reduce 20% on the seams but that is 10 or 15 years down the road. I have run the full size wavebox on an old 150g for a long time without any issue. IMO, you shouldn't have to worry about it. I have not seen anyone has a split seams due to the wavebox.

It has happened twice to my knowledge and both tanks were homemade and the silicon was not properly cured. I would never use a wavebox on a homemade tank, an economy model tank or a tank on a poorly made or unlevel stand. It will reduce the tank life. I would be cautious about installing a wavebox on a tank that has been moved numerous times or is over 10 years old.

Is this valid for 1" thick acrylics?

You should be fine with 1" thick acrylic. My 8x4x2 is 1" thick with 4 ext waveboxes...

Will one single wavebox not produce the desired effect? The height will be slightly compromised due to a 3"-4" sandbed.

I think the cheapest I found them for was around $439 for the extension...

Hallo Roger!

The tank is being built by James at Envision Acrylics here in Oregon (I love living in Oregon!), so I can guarantee the tank will be built well. The sides will be 3/4" acrylic, while the rest will be 1". I had him design that specifically so I could have a Wavebox or two for the tank.

When are you guys coming out with a wavebox large enough to accomodate our HUGE tanks?

It can be done if you have James build you a box approx 6" wide x 5" long x 16"-18" tall to run the tunze 6301 and 6091 wave controller you don't need the second box....
