Wavebox in 48x24x24

Hey Roger,
Do you think a wave box in this dimension will work? I already have 2x 6100 with 7094, but really the wave effect.
Spencer

Yes, I have one in a 75. I can tell you in a 120 with corner overflows you will only get about a 1/2" wave- maybe 3/4". On my 75 with a roughly centered hang on overflow I get nearly 1", the overflows on the ends act to trap and absorb the wave energy so it doesn't build up so much.

I have the same dimensional tank with central overflow, I get about 1.25" wave, it is awesome.... I wish I had a way to post a clip. but if you want I can email it to you. Let meknow.

If anyone is upgrading to a wave box I would be interested in the streams. I have the same 120 tank and I am looking to add either a stream or a wave box. I have been following this forum for awhile trying to get an idea for what direction I should go. I only have one overflow box in a corner and I don't know if a wave box would be too much. Any thoughts or offers?

Eric

Roger,
I am having a 72x24x24 starphire tank built. I will incorporate my existing 6100's in that tank but also want to add a wavebox. I will likely be using external overflows. Is there anything about the wavebox that I should know about before I have the tank built? I read in another post where you were clear that using a wavebox will decrease the longevity of the tank itself. Kinda scary but I'm prepared. I just wonder if there is anything I can have the builder do to strengthen the tank prior? I am going with euro type bracing so I think the lip will look something like an acrylic tank. My guess is that would be better to eliminate any chance of splashing.

Your opinion?

One more question I thought of. Are my external overflows going to be an issue? What I don't want is to have a wave go by the overflow, then leave no water going in, and then with the re-introduction of another wave, have a bunch of water pouring into an empty overflow. Absolute silence is the key. Can it be achieved with a wavebox?

Build a big centered overflow instead and you won't have that problem, otherwise, it is inevitable. The amount of noise will depend on through flow and use of Durso pipes.

i am with benf,. i just order wave box and i do have 2x6100 on my 140g tank..
sawjack,
can u ,please help us a little:))

thankx,mike

I'm setting up a 48" x 24" x24" plexiglass tank. Currently
I'm building a centre overflow. How close can I get the water
to the top of the tank and not worry about overflowing
if in the future I get a wavebox? When people are talking
about a 1" wave, is that the height from top to bottow?
That is, the water level is +/- 0.5" from the static level? Or
+/- 1" from the static level? I'm trying to size the overflow
as high as possible.

thanks

1" from static level. I would have the teeth of the overflow extend about 2" from the top so you have about some room from the trim and also some room for the flow through the box.

Roger, any answer to these two questions? I really like the wavebox concept, am planning a new tank and I was wondering the exact same thing.

Hi guys sorry for not replying sooner. I have the wave box mounted on the right tank wall (as your facing the tank) about 4" from the front (it is not centered). I have my stream 6100's as close to the bottom of the tank as possible in the back corners blowing at 45 degree angles towards the front (basically under the rock work to keep detritous suspended) I have also added 2 6000's placed in the back corners pointing toward the middle of the front glass. these are placed as high in the water column as possible. The water movement is crazy!
