wavebox in center overflow?

Excuse my dumbness... :D

I am going with a 72x24x24in tank.....barebottom with 60-70% SPS... will have a center trap overflow...

My questions....how much space is needed for wavebox to work properly between overflow water level and the wavebox water level? Would I need the overflow to be buil a tad lower?

Also, is it possible to hide a wavebox inside the overflow and still have it function properly?

thanks

I am not clear on where the overflow will be. if you mean centered length wise in the tank you don't have to worry about it, since the center will be the waves fulcrum point the water level won't change. Expect a wave of up to 1.5" high. The wavebox would have to be positioned on one of the 24" by 24" ends to work.

overflow...

overflow...

so if you are looking at the tank face on, the overflow will be centered in the back... a trapezoid overflow I hope...

So if I can expect a 1.5" rise, does that mean the overflow height needs to be adjusted to compensate for this rise and fall?

I guess I am not really sure how the wavebox works, so unclear as to whether it needs a hole in the overflow face to the main tank in order to work, or if just putting it in the overflow is sufficient...

With that overflow position it would be absolutely impossible to mount it on the overflow- it has to be aimed down the length of the tank. It works on the principle of resonance frequency to create a single oscillating wave cresting on one side troughing on the other, the center will remain at a constant height and a center overflow is ideal. You just need to be sure that their is at least 1.5" from water line to spilling out of the tank.

ok so the wavebox is out of the question then for my tank..

now, what about any of the tunze streams?? Can any of them be hidden within an overflow? In other words, if you drill an opening in the face of the overflow for one of the tunzes, is there a way to mount them from inside the overflow and still have a water tight seal?

thanks

The wavebox is only out of the question if you insist it has to go in the overflow, otherwise your layout is ideal. It would be impossible to mount the Streams ina watertight manner in the overflows, not to mention the overflow could likely not handle the flow. If you can get past hiding things in the overflow, they are all workable options.

why would the overflow need to handle the tunze's flow? I thought only the return flow is what goes into the overflow?

Well, I just would like a clean look... how long of an electricity ord do the tunzes have?

I have some issues with my tank in one room, and controller in adjacent room, but having to go through a wall.
