wavebox question

I am setting up a 210 twin over flow tank and I am thinking of using a wavebox for the closed loop portion of this tank. The tank dimensions are 72x24x30. I am going to set this tank up with the short end of the tank against the wall and use the length of the tank as a room divider. My first question is will one wavebox be enough? Second can I mount the wave box in the middle of the short end of the tank where it points down the 72 length of the tank.

I don't understand what you mean by using the wavebox as the closed loop portion. The wavebox goes in tank and the flow it creates is not sufficient on it's own. The volume of flow is their but it has no direction, the debris will just lift and hover and that leaves out one critical aspect of flow- carrying debris to your skimmer and filter system for removal. The positioning you have in mind is correct. You will want to have a directional source of flow though in addition, a Stream 6100 would be ideal.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I do not understand completely. The tank has two over flows that will supply 1200 gph to the sump. I was going to use that return flow(1200 gph) for basic tank circulation. I am limited funds so I want to try and get the best bang for my dollar. I also thought of using a scwd on the returns to get more random patters.

I am on the right track here or have I missed the train completely.

1200gph is likely not enough, and that much flow through your returns may raise the water level in the tank more than the Wavebox will be able to work with, for example, if the 1200 gph means a 1/2" of water stacked up at the overflows and the wavebox creates a 1" wave it may require you reduce the wave height to not end up with water on the floor. You could try it but I don't make any promises. I would ask some of the people who are using them, Tagareef and SeanT have a thread going and have similar size tanks.

If its the newer style aga 210 with mega flows the wavebox will work on it with 1200gal an hour on the closed loops. I am currently running the same tank with 2400 gals an hour on the returns, a wavebox and two 6100's with no modification to the tank or overflows.

Thanks for the help. I order the wave box today. If I need to add a 6100 later on then I will bit the bullet then.
