wavebox vs. stream

well, i had a stream 6000 (i think - non-controllable) on my old 90 gallon tank and i loved the flow, but, it created areas where the flow was not random - i am currently setting up a 105 gallon tank - 48-18-28 and i had thought that the wave box would better than streams - it will be barebottom, but mainly zoos, shrooms, clams, lps and softies - i want good flow that is random and doesn't leave deadspots - can i go with just the wavebox setup (do you have to have a stream plus the wavebox) or would a stream setup be better (one stream or two) - thanks.

I would advocate a Stream and a wavebox. Others may advise differently but I believe the wavebox flow alone is not sufficient. You could use a wavebox and the 6060 and rely on the wavebox to create the randomness, a 6000 which is the controllable one, would be better.

well, for the cost associated, it seems that the better bet would be to get a stream kit with two of them with alternating flows?? or, would this be overkill??

thanks.

No, a couple of 6000 and a 7095 would work as well, but the 6060 and a wavebox is cheaper.

I might also add, I think the flow of the 6060/ wavebox combo would be better for your intended inhabitants.

really?? where do you recommend buying them from - seems as though everywhere i try they are sold out - any suggestions/?

also, would i run the 6060 all the time or alternate it??

thanks

Those should be readily available, I have waveboxes and 6060's here and all of our dealers should have them. I would probably try different things with the 6060, maybe run it only for a couple hours at a time or off at night. Just use it to keep things moving and prevent cyano.

It would by roughly $630 for a wavebox and 6060 and roughly $800 for 2 6000 and a 7095.

roger -

what magnets would we need to order to mount the wavebox - i am curious as most come with the rail system - also, do you need one or two magnets?? thanks.

It depends, the manual says two magnets, whichever one is right for your glass thickness- 6080.50 for 1/2" and 6200.50 for 3/4". I change these instructions for US tanks with trim, because the top magnet sits funny half on the trim, it works I just think it doesn't look professional. So, what I do is I use a mag holder at the bottom and I use 2 suction cups at the top- these are sold in a four pack as part 3060.440. Yes, suction cups suck and you will have to change them, the worst that will happen though is it starts to wobble back and forth but it is largely secure because of the mag holder at the bottom.
