Waveboxes

I am currently designing a large tank 120"x60"x36" and I'm having a hard time coming up with the flow plans. I plan on keeping mainly SPS and want a ton of flow. I have heard that the waveboxes give just that a ton of flow. The problem is that don't want anything showing inside my tank. I am planning on having several streams (haven't decided on the 6201's or 6301's yet) a closed loop and, obviously, a return. I think the wave boxes will get me where I want to be (in that 50 times flow rate). Is there a way to mount these boxes on the outside of the tank and am I limited to just 1 wavebox and 2 extensions?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thay have to be mounted in tank, you would need 1 wavebox and two extensions. With a bit of creativity in rock work they can be hid. The best way I have seen is to build a PVC frame and drill and zip tie rock to form a live rock shell to hide the boxes. You have to be sure to leave an opening for the outlets.

Do the top of the boxes have to be at the surface of the water or can I have them a foot or so deep? How are they connected? And will 1 box and 3 extensions be enough for my tank? Is there a way to integrate the streams and the waveboxes together?

Thanks for the help.

Your tank volume is about 1120 gallons, one box and 3 extensions would be correct, I am sorry about my earlier misstatement. They must stick out above the surface roughly 3/4" to take in air on a surge. There is no benefit to integrating the Streams and Waveboxes beyond having the waveboxes off for a period and running only the Streams. This can be done with one extension but not when running 3. You would need a wavebox, two branch adapters and 3 extensions to connect up your entire wavebox set.

Harleyguy, i am going to have the same setup at your, just a little shorter 8x4x2. I am going to run 1 wavebox and 3 extensions via the wave controller and 1 adapter (you don't want to put your stream on the wave controller... I have done it before! it will do more harm to your stream than good).

If your tank is acrylic, you can request the tank maker to build the external wavebox (that is what i did). The stream has to be on the 7095 controller to be able to provide a good random and directional flow....
