Wavemaker HELP!

Hello there!

I recently purchased a JBJ Ocean Pulse - DUO Wavemaker I was told that it has a soft start and would not damage my PH's. Upon installing it I noticed that when I power my 6025's on I hear a chattering sound for anywhere from 3-10 seconds, the pump releases some debris, and then it runs as normal. I placed my mj1200's on the wavemaker and it runs without any problems. Both my 6025's do the same thing... one just makes more noise than the other... is this expected? (I knew I should have just bought the bigger one!)

My tank is too small to go with the larger Tunze wavemaker system...
...however my 180g next year (I hope) will definitely have the wavebox and the 7095!!!

Thanks for the help!

The 6025 is not supposed to be used on a wavemaker, it will damage the pump. Soft start is largely a marketing gimmick, a synchronous powerhead spins based on the HZ, 60 hz, 60 polarity changes a second equals 3600 rpm. Below 90V most powerheads won't even spin so ramping up voltage does not work. Impeller pumps can and do spin clockwise and counterclockwise and work so they are far simpler to operate on a wavemaker, prop pumps don't work if they spin backwards, the chatter you hear is the pump trying to get the right direction and it is slowly destroying the pump. They should not be turned off and on more than once every 15 minutes and the longer the delay, the longer they last.

hmmm... yet another sucker!!!

ok...well thanks for the info roger! i guess i shouldn't have bought that piece of equip. ..... crap!!

thanks for being on the top of your game!
