I use an Oceansmotions Squirt in a closed loop. Its one of the best things I ever got. In 2+ years I have not touched it. It works so easily with nothing to maintain and you can have 2, 4 6, 8 or as many different flow patterns as you want with just one device. They are not that expensive and I would recommend them to anyone:
