I have a sumpless 40 breeder w/ a JBJ ATO. I've been thinking about getting some type of wavemaker - probably a Tunze 6040 or a Jebao of some type.
I don't really want a full standing wave or a gyre type of flow - I have a lot of soft corals, and I'd just like them to wave around a little bit (plus generally improve the water flow & decrease dead spots).
However, I'm concerned that any waves at the surface will mess with the float switches on my ATO. I've seen that some people solve this by running their ATOs on a timer, and I might do that. However, that just means that it will be dumping in a lot more fresh water at once, which sort of defeats the purpose.
If I run the Tunze/Jebao lower in the tank, will I still get decent "wave action" without messing up the ATO too much? Is there better type of ATO that isn't as affected by wave action?
