Wavemakers: Gimmick or beneficial?

I was wondering if a wavemaker in an SPS tank actually brings any benefit. Can any SPS growers chime in with their experience with wavemakers? Do they bring any benefit beyond adding the extra powerheads? Thanks!

They are more natural than a powerhead, but still aren't like an ocean current : ) Either or will work for sps.

I can say I had noticably more polyp extension after adding my MP20. I attribute it 100% to the random flow it creates.

A well designed CLS will do a better job than a wave maker IMO.
