WavySea Tunze Pos/Neg

I want to put my 2 6201s on WavySeas.
Does anyone have anything positive or negative to say that will help me decide?
Any pics would be great, I have a 2x2 frame around the top of my tank as part of the canopy---I guess I'll have to modify that?
Thanks, Rodney

I take it you intend to oscillate the pumps side to side? Their is a reason we don't offer such a device ourselves. Over a few years with exposure to UV light the cord becomes harder and brittle and the stress of the motion can cause it to crack and the pump will fail as a result. I would be careful to shield and reinforce the cord where it is being moved.

Thanks guys, yes I want to oscillate them, Roger.
Rouselb, I just don't have the random flow pattern that I desire.
I don't think the mag18 that I have for a return from sump would make a dent in the flow on 2 WS.
I have a 6101 in the back middle as well--it is pulsing 0-100% every 8 seconds, and gives pretty good randomness, but I need more to make my SPS flourish.
I suppose a wavebox is the other option?
This is only a 120g 4' tank, pumps ae on full blast (except the 6101) and I still can't get decent flow to a couple of colonies.
What do you think, Roger?
Thanks all, Rodney

I dont really count my return pump as useful flow, its more for just filtering the water through the skimmer. I used to run large pumps for the return but it was a loud. What i did was just add another PH to help with flow. I have (4) streams and a wavebox. The streams do all of the work, the wavebox only seems to help suspend some of the debris for a longer time frame. Dont get me wrong, i love the wavebox, but adding another streams will do so much more. I look at the wavebox as a luxury. Placement of the streams is so important, and you really have to spend some time moving them around until you get the right combination. I use the pulse mode for 2 sec from 50% to 100%. This gives me great PE. I also had to move some rockwork around so that it worked with the flow. I would recommed another streams and not the WS. You can get more flow and its easier to move around as corals grow.

Try pulsing 30-100 every 3 seconds or so, the idea behind pulsing is for slow and fast flow to collide and the fast flow mushrooms over the slow flow making it broader.

It is up to you, just keep in mind oscillating stresses the cord and may shorten the pump life.

Yes, I really don't want to damage my Streams.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I believe that I don't have them placed correctly in my tank.
The clips broke on my 2 magnets holding the 6201s(at the same time) when I started to pulse them, so I'm reluctant to pulse them.
I need to order 1 more set and send these broken ones to Roger.
I suppose this is the main reason for considering the WS---but I believe when the power goes out, they remain fixed in the last position (this could be very bad for me).
Thanks again, and I will try different positioning.
Roger, do you think it really is just a fluke that they broke? I had them angled at about 45 degrees pulsing from 30-100% when one side of each clip broke. I reversed the magnets to now hold(at 100%, no pulse), but it is a very scary thought of a 6201 blowing around a 120g freely.
Thanks, Rodney

The 6200.23 is two pieces that are glued, in my experience they can break from stress if used like a wavebox, with very rapid, on and off pulses but otherwise they break because the glue or prep was not done perfectly. If they break at the glue joint you can generally repair them.

Yes, just the very small edge of the magnet holder (you already said that you would replace them--I just need to send them to you). But it would hate for one to fall off. One was barely clinging to its holder after it broke. They both broke at the same time, pulsing 30-100%--that's why Im interested in the oscillation concept, but the WS does not look promising (not restarting after a power outage).
Thanks Roger, I will send you those 2 magnet holders (I took pics a while back for you, but it may be hard to see).

Yes, I have seen this happen and we don't know why, it is pretty rare though as between the two models I have only seen this happen a couple dozen times and we have sold thousands of these holders. I have talked to Mr. Tunze about it and the consensus is this happens because the plastic is either too thin or scorched in the mold and they are just random defects, we can't find a logical or consistent issue outside of these possibilities.
