Well i have to say it was wonderful to meet you all during the frag swap, you made both Kelsey and I feel very welcome. But what i wanted to say was thank you so much, you some how convinced my wife to give me the OK to go bigger. lol. As you know right now i have the 29g Biocube. She has given me the ok for the following:

max length of - 48"
max depth of - 30"
and doesnt matter on the height .

woot thanks folks, now i need to find a tank and i would love some ideas

Bill:strooper:

well jus if i go 48Lx24Wx 30H i would be at around 150 gallons so i would plan around there. The problem is the only wall i have is 52 inches so i cant go bigger thn the average 48inches.
so 150 gal is where i will be going for.
And i was hoping to find a used one that i can get below 800 bucks and rebuild the way i want it.

Bill you may want to think about the 30" height they are tough to reach down to the sand at that depth. 48 wide x 30 front to back and 24 deep is IMHO an easier shape to work with and acuascape. BTW welcome to the darkside ;) Grant

I agree with grant on that point. I have a 150gal 48x24 footprint, 30 tall.

It's just very deep and you have to climb ladder and your entire arm is needed to reach bottom of tank (unless you use tongs).

Either way, I think 150gal are hard to find. Better just go with 120gal. A bit easier to find.

Also, consider side-drilled coast to coast overflow instead of reef-ready bottom drill overflow (just my personal preference). Then use beananimal's silent overflow.

You can build a 40" high stand so fishtank is standing viewable. If tank will be in living room in sight of couch, then make it lower.

You can use a 40gal breeder tank as sump. PetSmart has occasional $1/gal tank sales.

Read my thread/s on my "builds"

Also, 150gal 30" high is harder to stack rocks unless you pile along back wall or use drilled acrylic support rods or epoxy cement.

all very good points guys, and ya i was thinking that 30 would look great but might be a bit tall. i like the walls drilled never been fond of the floor being drilled. If all of you could keep an eye out for a used tank/stand and such and send it my way i would love it. thanks

@grant - Lol ya thanks i think it was you who got Kelsey to break thanks. lol

I have a rimless 48x30x20" high and it's really great for reaching the bottom while standing on the floor. I had a 24" deep tank and you will need a step ladder for even that depth.
