The animals in this hobby never cease to amaze me. Let's go back about 2-3 months ago. I was at the LFS and noticed he had a large tiger pistol shrimp paired up with a Randall's goby. I asked about the pair and he told me a customer had brought in the pistol because it was killing all the gobies he had paired it with. He didn't think this was the case so he paired it with the largest goby he had in stock (about 1.5") and everything seemed to be going really well. A few days later I bought the pair. About a week after that I never saw the goby again although I do on occasion see the Pistol shrimp. I assumed the goby was shrimp food
Prior to all that I had purchased a fairy wrasse that my GF had fallen in love with and thought was "really cute". She named him Clyde. He did really well in my tank but about 2-3 weeks ago he disappeared. I assumed that my 10" brittle star must have eaten him because he always slept in the sand, under a rock near the brittle star.
I was a little bummed about the fish loss but had not really thought to much about it because my tank otherwise seems very health. Well last week while doing my tank maintenance, I had some hair algae in my overflow that I scooped out along with the other pruning I had been doing that day (currently battling a bit of HA). So tonight when I got home, I checked the overflow to see if any of the HA had begun to grow back, and low and behold I see the Fairy Wrasse! I was stunned to say the least. First thing I did was put a bit of flake in there for him which he ate rather excitedly.
I began BBQing Dinner trying to think how I was going to get him out of the overflow. I tried using a small net trying to scoop him up. (With little success). One time though, he splashed the surface, but I noticed a white and orange color instead of pink and grey. I grabbed a flashlight and looked around a bit more and low and behold the Randall's was in there too!!. WTH :lolspin: I know that wrasses can jump, but I had no idea a Randall's would jump. As of right now they are both still in the overflow, I figure another 24hrs won't hurt but I will be getting them out as soon as a can.
