We need a home!

I work on DMAFB doing the environmental clearance for the old houses that are being demolished, and the new ones that are being built. In the past month, I have unfortunately come across numerous pets that have been left abandoned in the old houses with no food or water. Their spineless owners apparently think it's better for the animals to die of dehydration or be bulldozed in alive rather than them do the right thing and either take them with them when they move or find new homes for them. There is no excuse for this type of cruelty. No one on the base will help. In fact, when I asked what they normally do when they come across an abandoned animal in a house, I was told they just "Let them out."

I was able to keep the cat that I found (who was 9 lbs underweight and severely dehydrated when I found him), but today I found three dogs that were dumped. One is a Boston terrier and the other is a long haired wiener dog-goldie mix (or at least that's what it looks like). Both of them are extremely sweet and friendly. The terrier is very underweight, but they both seem healthy and have been eating well.

The third dog that I found today was very afraid of people and I wasn't able to catch him (in spite of the pork chops I brought with me to bait him with, haha!). He's a chihuahua. If anyone is interested, I hope to be able to catch him after the weekend, maybe then he'll be hungry enough that he can't resist! I believe all three dogs were dumped by the same family, as they all have the same style of collars and hang out together. One has a tag, but the number listed has been disconnected. Soaring Heights (which manages the base housing) has not had any reports of people's dogs gone missing, and based on how skinny these guys are, where I found them, and how difficult it is to access that area, it's hard for me to believe that they are simply lost.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in adopting either of these dogs. I already have two big dogs that don't get along with other dogs. In addition to my two dogs, I have six cats :eek1:. So I am already maxed out as far as taking in homeless animals that I find at work! I would love to keep these critters, but they honestly wouldn't be safe around the two dogs I already have, since my guys are very aggressive towards other dogs. Especially other dogs that are small enough to pass as a piece of kibble for my guys!

Thanks,
Sarah

thats aweful, id take one, but i rescued a chocolate lab that someone dumped about a month ago, i have 3 now and my girlfriend who lives with me threatens death to me if i get one more, thanks for going this far and trying to find them a home.

Yeah my fiance is the same way! I keep on finding all these strays and he's like, "THEY ARE ONLY STAYING WITH US FOR ONE NIGHT!!" The last time he said that, it turned into, "You know, I kinda like this guy. It wouldn't hurt to keep it... It's just one more..." But unfortunately, that's not an option for these dogs... I know my dogs and they are MEAN to other canines!! I can't trust them around little dogs that wouldn't be able to defend themselves. My dogs are both black and white, and when I think about leaving them alone with these little dogs, that scene from Blue Planet where the orcas are tossing the little seals back and forth and ripping them to shreds comes to mind! Funny, because they get along great with all the cats...

Thanks everyone. I took them to a rescue group today -- www.notsograndedogs.org. They are located in Picture Rocks and specialize in small dogs. In case anyone is interested in them, they are up for adoption! It was too hard keeping them in my house with my two dogs.

Thank you for finding them safety.

It amazes me that adults have to be told stuff like this, but I know there is some campaign on campus to discourage students from abandoning pets when they leave the U. It sounds like the base could use it too.

Soaring Heights is not going to do anything about it because it is a civilian run organization. The military side needs to get involved. I guarantee you if that person's supervisor, commander, or first sergeant found out they would be in a heap of trouble. I just moved from that base and I know the upper leadership. They would not take kindly to what is going on. Not only is it cruel, but to base commander wants a bunch of dogs running wild around his installation or wants his base to be highlighted as having a bunch of rotting animals in the houses.... Maybe you can take the complain up the chain....
