Weather update (Hanna the Hurricane)

For those that follow the weather like myself you may find this interesting as it doesn't follow the general consensus. I'm into surfing and follow the weather pretty closely. I use this website amounst others to track weather patterns so I know before I go.

I've found this site to be very accurate in their forecasts over the years.

There's lots of places you can check but for local stuff this is the page I keep track of. In the upper right corner of the page click on the zoom out button and watch.

The time window extends out 7 days. While watching the loop pay attention to where Gustav is forecast to make landfall. Then watch Hanna in action.

Decide for yourself what preps you should take this week.

Seems to be a hotly debated storm - most of the models aren't predicting well... I've seen several that have it either skim south of the keys and then swing northward, to going north sooner, to, well, all sorts of things. Hanna definitely concerns me - and probably everyone else headed to MACNA...

I like the discussions over at Storm2K myself. And will be carefully watching this one while the focus is on Gustav.

The chart predicts what is almost always the case with hurricanes that are on a "direct path" for Florida. When they come right at us from due East they always take a hard right hand turn to the north just before they get to florida.

Its this same reason that the storms that get us are the ones that make that north turn from the south cuba area and we just happen to be in the way.

Something about the florida region that makes hurricanes take a hard turn to the north. You see them for days and weeks at a time coming from africa on a due west course (or close to) and don't turn or make any sudden moves.

Get to the Carribean area and BOOM, right hander!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Interesting site. Good info for sailing as well as surfing.

Just checked again today. It shows the storm a little further away from FL and just clipping the outer banks.

There's going to be some serious waves Monday.

As of today the weather is perfect here on the coast. I put the boat in at 7:30 am and the boat ramp and parking lot was abandoned. Everyone must be thinking the storms coming here??It was like a week day. We picked up some friends and went to b-fast off the river. There wasn't another boat in sight at 9:30am.

By the time we left the restaurant the river looked like I-4 with everyone heading out.

Well, time to go fishing now. Everyone have a fun weekend. By the way the beach is perfect at low tide which is early am and this afternoon. There's a lot of water moving and the surf is very choppy so use common sense if your going to the beach and you're not a good swimmer.

See ya
