Webcam

I will be out of town next week and need to setup my webcam so I can monitor my tank from time to time. I do have an AC3 hooked up to the internet as well, but I don't completely trust it if I can't see it (lights actually running).

I'm sure it isn't an overly complicated process for a lot of you out there. I would appreciate if someone could give me some advice/direction either on this thread, or through a PM.

Thanks

I've looked into it too and there is an app for the iPod Touch and iPhone that allows you to hook the webcam to your computer and stream it to your iPhone

I have a webcam 24/7 monitoring my reef tank. It is a Logitech Pro 9000 HD USB webcam.

The Logitech Pro 9000 will cost around $75. TheUSB connection requires a computer on to work and a software like Windows Media Encoder, free to download from Microsoft. If you don't have the computer close to the tank you will need a USB active extension cable. A USB active extension cables is an active device that buffers the data going in and out. I use two 15' cables.

I also have a Panasonic BL-131a in my planted aquarium wich cost around $250. Its a wireless IP camera not requiring to use a computer. Will connect directly to the modem.

If you have a DSL connection you only need the camera for the setup. No additional costs assuming you already have a DSL connection.

you have an awesome tank.

My camera is a microsoft livecam HD, I believe. ($50)

I use the flash media live encoder 3.1. (free)

And I stream it live through a site called Justin.tv. (free)

You can view my tank here Justin.tv/xsjadolateralus , the tank is very new and not too impressive. :)

Justintv works very well, though. I recommend it. Also, check out Justin.tv/ajcanale

That's the guy who introduced me to reefing. I love his tank.
