Ok, so that officelive.com thing that Mustang394 pointed out a few pages ago about making a website for the club that is free is pretty cool. I made a stupid little site and wanted to try it out

http://www.deighton-reef.com/

It is very easy, but I have not really gotten too deep into it. I wrote up some silly stuff to see what all could be done, and it looks pretty good.

This very simple page has not cost me anything, and it would be a great place to have some informative info about the club. I have not looked into forums on it, but we have forums here and I don't really see a reason for another place to post.

I will play with it some more over the next few days and weeks, but I think it is a great place to start.

If some one has access to frontpage 2003 you can use that to design the web page as well there design tools are a bit limited.

Most others can be used just takes abit of tweaking to get it to upload.

I think the biggest reason that we don't have a website is because it is not simple, that and it is not free. This wetup is free, and you don't need any tools.

It took only one day for my temp address to change into my perm domain name, and I can easily setup e-mail accounts, a club calendar, make many webpages, track traffic, and I am sure a few more things, and its free.

I see no reason to not use this as is. Plus using it as is means you get all the upgrades that come with a system setup like this, and you can easily pass the web development job to anyone.

You get this for free.

Free domain name and Web hosting
Easy-to-use Web site design tools
500 MB of Web site storage space
25 company-branded e-mail accounts
Web site reports
Search advertising tool with $50 credit*

I would think that would be enough to start a club website. If in time you need more you can double everything for 19.95 a month

Not sure if you can use web developers with the free version I know you could when it was in betta but that may have stopped.

We are currently working on a website. We will want something with a forum and the ability to upload. If everyone is patient we will have it going soon.

Great Idea

Great Idea

This is awesome... can't believe that SCMAS members are putting together a site. If you need any graphic design let me know.

Yeah that free site seems like a neat idea but I think we need lots of photos, every members tank and I think build threads would be cool. I personally don't see any reason to use this forum here on RC anymore once we have our own forum. I just don't see why we would need it.
Now RMRC has their own I believe but they still use RC. I don't know why though, maybe its hard to wean yourself from RC? I mean I'd still use all the other areas of RC.
Anyway i just think we could do much more, like having meetings, we could have a page just for them and once that meet is done photos from it and text about what happened could be uploaded and stay there forever, instead of dropping off into the RC abyss.

Throw out some more ideas guys because it's being developed right now and now is the time to suggest ideas for the new site.

It would be a mistake to stop using RC

I agree, b/c it is a pathway for new people searching for a club. A website seperate from RC is a great thing, but the forums here are becoming more and more invaluable to new members. Folks may search RC, and not know a thing about SCMAS...
