Some of you don't know me very well, so I thought I'd tell you about my current tank project by way of introduction.
I've been reefing since about '93, keeping Nano tanks since before they were the "In" thing.
Right now I have a 20L mixed reef with a pair of B&W clowns from Coral Reef and a 5g Softie tank with some Sexy Shrimp.
These will all be merged into the new tank once it's up.
The project I'm working on is a 30g tank, 36x12x16.
It's a recycled tank, it was formerly the Prop tank of my MIL, BibleSue.
Here's the tank before cleaning, sitting on a credenza I found on craigslist that I will be using for the stand:
For lighting I am using a 4x39w T5HO retro from ReefGeek, with 2 ATI Blue+ bulbs, 1 ATI Aquablue, and 1 KZ Fiji Purple.
I am planning on drilling the tank and plumbing it for a sump. I have a friend who is gonna build me an acrylic overflow, and I'm planning on going Herbie Style with it.
I had originally planned on having a 1" overflow with a 3/4" return. However, I discovered yesterday that I was sent the wrong size bulkheads, so it looks like I'll be going with 1.5" overflow and 1" return.
I have a Quiet One 2200 for the return pump, and I will be using a Vortech MP20 for circulation in the display.
Current plan is to build the sump out of a 15L tank.
I'm actually planning on using the sump for a mini frag growout/Prop tank rather than the typical refugium.
I have a Reef Octopus NW-110 skimmer for the sump.
Also have a DIY ATO kit that I will be using for this system.
Btw, does anyone have a holesaw that I could borrow to drill the hole for the 1.5" bulkhead?
For corals, it will be Mixed Reef, although I'm planning on going really light with the SPS for the moment.
Right now I'm really interested in getting some cool and unique Favias and Softies that I don't already have.
It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm getting some bday $$ to put towards a Frag Order with er1c_the_reefer, already have a cool Red Chalice frag on hold with him.
Right now I just have the B&W Clown Pair from Coral Reef, which I LOVE.
I'm hoping to add some kind of a cool Blenny and a nice Fairy Wrasse, haven't decided exactly which kind yet.
