Weird Behaving Anemone.. Never seen this guy do this b4 ~Help

Okay, so i've had this anemone for about a year now and for about a month now his top portion of the body is really deflated. I thought if I would give him time he would get better.. Then I've tried new bulbs.. Even just recently bought a new 6x39w fixture. He looks alot better, more inflated and definitely more open. I also thought about maybe I wasn't feeding him enough. So I fed him for 3 days straight a big piece of shimp and it kinda made him go crazy. While my pumps were off, I went to go do something and 2mins later(I wish I would of took a picture) all I saw was half of the tank where he is at was full of this powdery stuff that kinda looked like micro bubbles... You could say I learned my lesson from that and he would of probably kept on eating if I didn't stop lol. Anywayz, he still readily take and devours food. He just looks weird. I also don't really see my clownfish ever biting him that much if not ever. Any ideal what you think could be happening?

Here's some pics..

Could have gotten an infection or some bad food maybe idk. What's even weirder is how bald it is. It has a very low amount of tentacles and what looks like new ones growing in.

What size is the tank with the 6x39s (t5ho I'm guessing?)?

I agree with this. It could be bad food. But I also agree that it's not getting enough light, probably just enough to keep it from bleaching. This is probably why it's up at the top of the tank and it's got weird tentacle extension.

It's a 60g tank with 30g sump.. I will have to disagree, this looks nothing like a bleached nem haha..

This is a bleached ritteri ..

This anemone had to move up there because it was the only place for him a year ago when i had a really aggressive carpet nem.. Ever since then he loves it because of the flow from my filter. I will have to admit with my coralife 4x39w t5ho fixture he may haven't been getting enough light from it but he's carried on for over a year with no problems until a few weeks ago.. I hope your not trying to imply my brand new fixture i just bought t5ho 6x39w over a 60g 36" across with a 18" depth isn't enough.... ?
Please don't tell me i need leds bc i refuse and really don't want to get into that.

T5HO is the way to go for me :P

I wonder if its from the shrimp i've been giving him.. I get it from the seafood section where you buy everything fresh. Maybe they put some kind of chemicals on their shrimp...

We weren't saying it was bleached just saying it wasn't getting enough light as it would like. Remember mags will sit inches under a 400w MH if given the opportunity and love it.

As far as the shrimp it could have been a funky or contaminated batch you never know. It just looks like he doesn't have the strength to regenerate his tentacle loss.

Here's the tentacle density on mine

Yours appears to only have them around the edge. That's why we were saying it appears to not be getting enough light. Hopefully with the additional bulbs it will begin to regenerate.

I hope so.. I really love this guy because he stays up there and leave my corals and everyone alone haha. Thats a beautiful anemone btw.

He's not really rainbow that's the lovely "LED disco ball effect". Its purple tentacles with yellow tips. Wish he looked that crazy in real life but its just in photos.

I'd try sliding your light fixture towards the back of the tank so he gets as much light on him as possible. 6x39w is a good deal of light being that close to it.

I would but it literately covers the whole top of the tank. I only have just enough room to get in there to clean the glass haha. This is with it scooted all the way back. Where he is at i'm only hoping he isnt getting burned lol.

See :P

It's very rare to have truly fresh shrimp from the seafood section. It's simply defrosted shrimp from the bag. If you look at the back of the bags, they list an ingredient called sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), which is generally regarded as safe, but if ingested in large amounts, could cause problems.

I don't think it's the cause of your problem, because many people feed their nems shrimp and don't have problems, but maybe you can try switching to salmon or other seafood that's fresh without any preservatives, and see if the nem improves.

Yeah, I hate those kind.. Have you ever tasted them yourself? The shimp they sell frozen in the bag, I bought some and i tried one myself because and friend of mine told me his experience with them.. I almost gagged it was so nasty.. Worst thing you could ever have in your mouth would be that nasty freezerburned shimp haha.. I was talking about the kind they have that's not even peeled yet and still on the counter over ice that they sell.. ^^
I don't want to say it was they're shrimp because i washed them out after i was done peeling them all so.. I don't think it even could be but you never know i guess that's why i wanted to ask on here and see what i come up with. I think he's starting to look better tonight which is what i wanted to show everyone = D

Yes, that's what I'm talking about too. The stuff at the fresh seafood counter usually just comes out of the bag. They simply defrost it as a courtesy for the customer. If you go early enough in the morning, you can typically see the bags sitting in the fresh seafood section thawing out.

Again, I agree that it's probably not it. But, what if there was a bad batch? I just lost my gig I had for 9 months. And it died without explanation. What if there was a bad batch of shrimp that happened to be distributed to multiple locations? The likelihood of this happening would be close to 0%, but I'm not ruling anything out.

Sorry, I misunderstood you there. Idk haha.. It's just kinda weird for him to do this for me cause he's been looking okay all this time and then all of the sudden you know he looks sick.. Another possibility would be my brother showing him to his friends possibly touching him while i'm gone. It has to be either that or with my previous light fixture's bulbs. I know that they weren't in the best shape at all.

Dude here is the deal... You ask and peeps are giving you the best answers possible. So be thankful... Seems like you are shooting down most of their possible answers. Anyhow this is what I see from your provided photo. Looks to be light issue as stated before old bulbs hopefully with your new lighting system it can gain back or all tentacles. It could be the food you feed it directly or something he pickup from neighboring fish but he needs to rest. I wouldn't feed just yet until he feels better. Good luck

mine ritteri seems shrinked since I got it as I dont feed it and dont want it to outgrow my little tank. But still it colored up nicely and does not seem to consume tentacles as yours. It really looks like your have to burn all energy savings.
BTW color seems like same morph :D

Note that this anemone is sitting underneath directly infront of the carbon filter. It's one of those aqeaon filters. I was wondering today while at work if the new carbon filters i put in there is maybe getting to him possibly.. I only have it on during the day and then at night its on a timer to turn on in intervals 15mins every hour.. I know I probably shouldn't even need it with my 30g sump underneath and hob bakpak skimmer but I want a second opinion on this subject any recommendations will be highly appreciated. = D

There are many possible reasons.
I do not see any water parameters mentioned in the thread.
Does not seems like many "ritteri requirements level" corals there.
I better not comment on hepatus in 60g tank....
