Yes, that's what I'm talking about too. The stuff at the fresh seafood counter usually just comes out of the bag. They simply defrost it as a courtesy for the customer. If you go early enough in the morning, you can typically see the bags sitting in the fresh seafood section thawing out.
not really related but I think I can clear up some confusion about the shrimp thing. Houston is pretty close to the Gulf Coast and a lot of shrimp boats come out of Galveston. I am from northern ca and live down in the gulf region now. People sell shrimp down here on the side of the road out of ice chests that were caught that morning, kind of like they do in California with fruit. Its pretty common to get real fresh shrimp in Houston is what I'm saying.
