weird colors on an acan colony

picked this up at a lfs this afternoon. I've never seen acans colored like this before. has anyone else seen this? the colony is about 6-7 inches long and about 5 or so inches wide and was dirt cheap. I've never seen a hard line separating two colors like this. There was another colony but the colors were marbled together. Any thoughts?

Also picked this up in the same tank. I think its a favia of some kind. It's got about 5 different colors on it. Can't wait to see what this does over time.

Ace I went in there last week sometime I think it was and was fighting back and forth with myself on which one to get. He had three different ones. Here is the one I picked up....easily 6 x 4 inches....for $40 bucks...I almost got the one you had also....the second picture also caught my eye....Those weren't bad prices for colonies of Acans with over 100 heads. I saw these on another site for $35 per 5 heads...so we made a good buy.

I have those acans also. My white one with orange ring turned brown.

Ace - man, in Austin those things are always ridiculously priced. Amazing the difference 75 miles make!! Sweet Acan though.

I think that second pic is a Montastrea, but I could, and often am, wrong on LPS ID's.

Also, do you think that maybe the Acan colonies were growing in partial shade in the wild, say under an overhang or something....

maybe if its not a wild colony but grown from a frag, someone glued two frags together that grew like that?

idk thats just the first thing that came to mind lol
