Weird crocea growth pattern

I posted this in the clam forum but since it doesn't get alot of activity, I thought I'd try here too. I've had the clam for almost 2 years and it's gone from 1 1/2" to 3". It's just growing strange, instead of fan shaped like every other crocea I've ever seen, it's growing flattened on top and round like a baseball. The mantle extension and color are great, any ideas as to why? Crappy pic but you get the idea.

very strange. maybe just one of those wierd mutations you get every once in a while

Thanks! It started out looking like a regular crocea but has changed alot and I have no idea why.

Why try to figure it out? It is beautiful enjoy it as a one of a kind thing.

I do enjoy it, but if you had a coral that normally grew up and it grew sideways in your tank, wouldn't you wonder why?

Never had one that small..but maybe it needs to add some bulk before it starts to grow vertically..it really does have beautiful coloring and really nice extension so would say it is very healthy.

That is a beautiful clam but it makes me dizzy when i stare at the pic.
