weird growth on my chalk bass

My chalk bass has developed a weird bump on its underside - looks to be near its anus. It almost looks like some sort of hernia. It appeared a few days ago but its growth has accelerated the last 2 days. It is probably about 4-5 milliliters in size. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have none, zero, zilch experience or knowledge about fish illness. But for Christmas I received David Alderton's Encyclopedia of Aquarium and Pond Fish (thanks, Santa!) and here's what it has to say:

Fish becomes swollen, notably in the vicinity of the belly ---> intestinal worms (give foodstuffs medicated with an anthelminthic) or vibriosis (treat with an antibiotic bath)

Lumps or more distinct cauliflower-like swellings develop on the body ---> cauliflower disease (give a short freshwater dip; time will help)

good luck.

thanks guys...it sounds kind of like a worm thing. All the fish, including the bass are acting healthy, but it sounds like I should quarantine and treat my bass. It is a little hard to diagnose some of this stuff without an autopsy- which would kind of preclude effective treatment :-)
