I have an emperor angel i have had for two years... all of a sudden he has been acting weird.. he looks fine no miss color or anything.. but he was just sitting in the corner and stopped eating.. i was able to reach in and grab him and put him in a QT set up with out a fight... so he is in QT now.. he is swimming sideways and backwards... still visually looks ok but just still swimming and acting wierd.. anythoughts on what it could be... really hard to treat for something i dont know.. QT has copper in it.. but still swimming all weird...

what was the fishes primary diet? i had a juvi emeperor that experienced the same simptoms is his belly swollen

The Emp might have an internal parasite. If his belly is swollen, then it might be a bacterial infection (dropsy).

For internal parasites, I've used Praziquantel (Prazi-pro by Hikari). For bacterial infections, I prefer Minocycline (Maracyn 2).

Unless you suspect ich, velvet or flukes, then copper is not necessary and may increase stress on your fish.

ok i feed him, nori, mysis, pelets and a home made mixture... belly might be a little swollen.. I will try and find some of that other medication today.. I think i have some maracyn 2 if not i will get some for sure after work thanks will keep you updated...

here are a few pictures from today.. if it helps...

he slowly slowly will pick at a pellet or two when i drop them in.. sometimes he gets them sometimes not.. what else could i treat him for???

i see no visible signs of parasites on the fish skin nor his fins so i would definatley sugest some sort of flukes give him another day or so and ofer him frosen food like mysid brine angel formula even try clams on a half shell from your local super market if you decide to try this make sure to rinse with fresh water and remove if he dosnot eat it as this will seveirly polute your water quality and considering hes in quarintne and not healthy that would bea very bad thing at this point if with in this time he dosnt eat i would definatley treat with prazi pro

Unless he's twitching, I don't think it's flukes since I don't see gel-like papules on his body.
I still think it might be some type of internal parasite.
Try soaking frozen food in prazi-pro and feeding that to him. And as dones suggested, brine shrimp could work as well. Although brine is not that nutritious, it might be the only food he's willing to take. It's like sick people in the hospital, they're in no mood to eat porterhouse steak, and might only be willing to eat oatmeal.

Oftentimes fish disease is extremely difficult to diagnose and treat. I had a 7" blueface angel for over a yr that died within 3-days of me noticing a problem. Everybody else in the 200g display was totally fine. To this day, I still don't know what killed him.

flukes are usually not visible to the naked eye because they are transparent unless they are over the fishes eye lens u will not see them and gill flukes are even harder to spot unless u can see into the fishes gills.... as gill flukes attack the gills and are usually found under the gill plates
