Weird places you found your fish... ALIVE!

I figured i would start this since I just had to dismantle my protein skimmer to retrieve a neon goby. How it made it into the skimmer and still was alive is a mystery since even though it is a HOB, it has a bubble trap for the outlet. The intake would have killed it I would think.

Anyway, what weird places have you had fish end up and still be living?

Well, I pulled 'Teacake' the highfin red goby out of the sump: she'd been living in a 1/4 inch space underneath the sponge that shields the mag 9.5 return pump intake. She'd been there, or thereabouts, hiding during cleanings, since May. She was pale, but hungry and full of life---thriving back in the display, and I've guarded that gap in the downflow teeth. I was testing out a new sump-flashlight with a stronger beam, and...
...she went toward the light.....

The floor. I woke up one morning, walked past the tank and noticed a spot on the rug. Without taking a close look I thought it was dirt. 1/2 an hour later I noticed one of our cats was checking it out so I went to pick it up. Then I realized it was my green clown goby. I threw him back in the tank and he started to drift to the bottom. 10 seconds later he swam into the rock.

I've found my mandarin goby in the overflow as well as my sump. Since I've added a piece of eggcrate to cover the overflow, because I got tired of fishing him out!

I lost my Dumb*ss goby through the overflow, on to the spill drain for the bio balls, when trying to get him off the tray, he fell down to the bottome of 2 feet of bio balls. 4 months later, I was pulling everything out to syphon out all the crap, and there he was, living off of crap.

I had a wrass that jumped in my over flow..

I found him about 3 months after he went missing..

I drained the overflow, got his butt back in the main tank..

2 weeks after that he jumped again and by the time I found the poor guy he had died.

(The weather was real hot and I had to take off the cover on the tank).

My yellow corris wrasse would jump into the over flow up to 3X per day, till I went crazy with acrylic and silicon.

I once found my Lubbock's fairy wrasse on top of the eggcrate, baking under the lights. Had been looking at the tank, wondering where he was, and just happened to see him there. I've found that fish on the floor more times than I can count. I was starting to think he must be invincible, but the last time I found him it was too late to save him. Beautiful fish, just not that bright.

Had a red coris wrasse who jumped out of the tank during a water change and landed in a rubbermaid tub I was draining the tank water into. You could hear the applause from his tankmates for the perfect execution of such a daring stunt. Showoff.

Found my large Blue Throat trigger in the overflow box. Only found it because of the yellow tail sticking out the top.
In my other tank my Dragon pipe is found in the sump at least once a month.

I know it's not a fish, but I once found a blue leg hermit half way down our hall like he was trying to make a run for the door.

Well, I guess you could call it a leap of faith.

One of my Bartletts jumped out of the 125......................into the other 125..............a little over 2 feet away. No ramps, no jet propulsion, he just wanted outta there. The really amazing part is the space between light fixtures and water surface isn't more than 6 inches in either tank. Darn good aim!

That is cool!

I spent more than a few minutes with my jaw hanging, after I realized he was in the wrong home, and the trajectory he needed to get there. Needless to say, both tanks are covered with eggcrate now.

LMAO

I found my sixline in one of the outside chambers of my HOB overflow. I guess he squeezed between the teeth (top of overflow is covered with eggcrate) and took a ride in the U-tube. He's doing great now though.

On more than one occasion I had found my snowflake eel crawling across the carpet in my room. I'm amazed how far he actually got. One time I caught him just as he jumped, as I heard a "plop" sound of him landing on the floor. I had to cover every crevice and hole in that tank before he stopped going on land expeditions.

My favourite fish, my lawnmower blenny, jumped out of the tank one night and squiggled about 20 feet from the tank to where I was sitting. It almost seemed to be asking for help. By the time I noticed and got him back into the tank, he was still breathing but almost completely dried up. He only last about 12 more hours before he gave up.

:(
