weird question about fragging zoa

i have fragged some zoas in my tank...first 4 were easy because they were glued down and i just picked them off the frag plug and glued. the fifth i had a problem with, it was "grown" on the plug and i accidently tore through the base.....

well, i put it on a rock, covered it with a veil and stuck it in my refugium.

my questions are...
how long will it take to attach to the rock after being cut like that (you could see its guts from the base of the cut)?
will the base on the frag plug grow another polyp (like a ricordia)?

thanks!

It probaly depends on the species.

I got this freebee from the LFS when i was buying some frags. It was a narcissus snail with some kind of paly glued directly onto it. The polyp eventaully worked its way off and ended up in a really low flow part of the tank so i just left it there. About a week later it was attached to a piece of rubble so i moved it up under the lights and now its like 20 polyps.

I have some EEs that are slowly detaching themselves from thier frag for some reason. I'm putting them into my fuge hopeing they'll re-attach themselves. been there for over a week now still not attaching.

sorry for the long post

the problem is that i actually cut into the base of the zoa...so like his guts and such were kinda poking out, i wasnt able to just pop him off the frag plug like the others.....

glue wont hurt this?

if anything the glue can help close the wound and allow it to heal. thats what the glue was invented for during wwii. to close up wounds on soliders faster so doc's had more time for others to work on. sorry for the history lession.

usually when i frag zoas and accidentally rip one open i cut it off the frag...and toss it...no sense chancing it to me..

i guess if it is one of those absolutely ridiculously priced supposedly rare zoas then i would try to glue the little guy back together..

I have experimented with every way of fragging that I have heard of. One of those was cutting the head off of a paly and gluing it to a frag plug. Both head and stalk recovered and grew. As far as small tears in the stalk. I have had that happen several times. I don't even mess with it. They have always healed up. Zoa/palys really are more hardy than many people consider them to be.
