weird things happening

In the past two months I have had a target mandarin and a red spot watchman disappear. they were both fairly new additions to the tank, the target had been in for about a month and the watchman about a week, both acclimated well and eating well. Today I saw my brittle starfish of 3 + years out in the open, which is strange to start with, and one leg is gone, two others are half gone. Don't know if there is any connection to the disappearances or pure coincidence. The only other things that have been added recently is a couple of emeralds and sally light-foot crabs, 2 cucumbers and some snails.

Any Ideas ladies and gents?

What are your water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH, Alkalinity, Calcium, Temperature, and Specific Gravity?

What type of brittlestar? Green Brittle Star? If so, they are known to be fish eaters as they grow bigger.

Make sure you haven't added an elephant ear mushroom or had one reach size. Both those fish are perchers. That mushroom will trap and eat such fish.

Although you haven't added anything recently, a long time hitchhiker could have recently reached a damaging size. You should do some flashlight viewing.

Target feed your brittlestar. If he's typically nocturnal, he might be out now b/c he isn't getting enough food.
