Hey all, had something very strange happen today that I've never seen before, wanted to see if anyone else had experienced.
First, here's the rundown I have a Whitetail Bristletooth Tang currently in QT with a Mimic Tang, Foxface, and 2 Flame Hawkfish. All are eating like pigs (feed 2x a day, plus keep nori clip in for a few hours in between) but the mimic has velvet and the hawkfish 100% have ich, so I'm putting them through cupramine since I can't really do TTM for velvet. I started the cupramine 2 days ago, I'm dosing very small increments so it takes about 5-7 days to get it to therapeutic. Tank parameters are as follow:
Temp: 78 F
Salinity: 1.022
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20 ppm
Copper: .2
Phosphates: .04
Tank is a 40 breeder with a vortech and HOB filter (only using sponges, no filters inside).
Long story short, I went to feed the tank, and the whitetail has puffy, white lips and is having an extremely hard time swimming - this just 20 minutes after I first checked the tank and she had nothing wrong with her.
I immediately go into emergency mode, scoop her up in a container with holes, and put her under the waterfall of my HOB. Within 2 minutes, her lips go back to normal and she starts swimming around and eating as if nothing had even happened. Now, 30 minutes later, still looks in perfect condition.
Anyone have any idea/experience with this prior? It was kind of strange. I did get a good look at her while she was in the container and didn't notice any type of spots or signs of infection. Upon further investigation, I did find a few bristleworms who had somehow managed to make it into the QT, possible she bit one and went into shock? I unfortunately do not have any pictures since it all happened so quickly.
Thanks for the help!
