What's up everyone? I'm about to start up a new 40 breeder tank fowlr. So far I have:
phosban 150 reactor for nitrates
coral life 65 gallon skimmer
300 watt jäger heater with jehmco heater controller
Wp25 wave maker
50 lbs dry rock from reef cleaners

I have to get sand(should it be live sand or dry sand)?

The sump will be another 40b below with 3 chambers, eventually will either run a refugium with Micro algae or maybe a dsb.

The pump is a Jabeo dc15000 which I'll have to tune down a lot

I plan on grabbing up 10 lbs of live rock from a friend to start the cycle along with a big bottle of bio-spira.

My question is how does the above look? Concerns or question? So far my "goals" are to have a clownfish, snowflake eel, and maybe a fuzzy dwarf lionfish. I have no plans for coral because I don't want to invest in lighting and have to watch the other levels.

Dry sand.

I would get a different skimmer when you have enough funds.

Phosban reactor is good, can run many types of media in it. Such as GFO and GAC, to name a few.

The coral life skimmer is a ***** to keep dialed in. There are some of the worst at over flowing! Best to find a better skimmer at some point

A WP25 will be most likely way too much for a 40, if dialed at its lowest setting and does create a sand storm, then it might be okay.

"Live" sand isn't what it's billed to be. Go dry and save some money.

Agree with the other points on the sand. "Live" sand isn't really worth it.

That said, if you ordered live sand and live rock from someplace like Tampa Bay Saltwater that actually harvests live sand and rock and ships it the same day in sea water, totally different story. That would be worth it.

But if you're talking about the pre-bagged live sand that's sat on a shelf for months...pass. Get dry sand, rinse it thoroughly, and you'll be fine.

List looks good to me too like others have said pass on the live sand, not worth the expense and I ran a WP25 in a 20 gallon QT and was able to dial back enough and create a nice little wave with it so you should be ok, just took a while to figure out placement that did not cause sandstorm and pushing sand all to one side but it can be done.
