The lovely branching piece of sps I got from Dana is apparently a delicacy for my tribal blenny. I got up this morning to see everything new in the tank and I saw the little beast nipping at it!! It's got bald patches now! Ugh!!! I've removed it from that tank and placed it in my 46g on a tall piece of rock (thankfully we hadn't dismantled it yet) and see if it mends itself in there.

I love my tribal blenny but I'm not so sure about keeping it if it severely limits what I can keep in the tank. I'm still very new to sps corals and seeing one of my first pieces being eaten right in front of me was definitely not cool.

wow, i have a blenny, not a tribal tho. i've never seen him nibble at anything ('cept my fingers)! don't worry, if it doesn't make it, i'd be happy to give you another piece. that particular sps grows really fast!

Some types of blenny's are notorious for nipping at SPS. I have known several people, including myself, that have had bicolors that nipped SPS. In fact I knew a couple of people years ago that tried to figure out for several months why they didn't have polyp extension until one day they actually caught their bicolor in the act.

I had a bicolor blennie that nipped at the first montipora I put in the tank. He was traded away to somebody in Knoxville with that little disclosure made...

I hate the thought of giving up the tribal blenny after going through the trouble of having it special ordered. It's a neat little fish and I love watching the markings flare up on its face, but I might have to trade him/her in for a different variety. :(

I remember seeing a tail spot blenny in Dave's tank and thought it was adorable. Are those ever nippy around sps?
