For small tanks, the 40 gallon breeder tanks seem to be the most popular due to the dimensions 36 x 18 x 16. The 18 inches from front to back opens up the landscaping possibilities. Easy to light and it is drillable. Don't cheap out on the skimmer get the best one you can afford and make sure it can handle a larger tank so that when you upgrade you don't have to buy twice. Lighting is determined by what you want to keep in the tank. Personally I would go with MH unless it was fowlr then I would go VHO with IceCap ballast. Can always use the VHO for actinics if you change your mind and have corals later on.

I will have a cultured 30 (currently successfully running, and Iron stand and simple flor lights and substrate / some rock in about 30-40 days... for about 75$ I could drill it for about 10$ a hole or promise me a frag of something I dont have sps... before you take it... (I could also be tempted by a breeding pair of clowns... do seriously think swap, depending on species...)

Otherwise my othe 30 gallon system is still dry tank, top, lights, stand, drilled, oveflow and returns , but I'm affraid you'll need medical attention if I tell you what I want for that one...
