But, they just spawned for the first time!!! Anyone locally know much about spawing and raising? I'm certainly unprepared as they spawned on a large piece of unremovable LR and I'm without live rotifiers at present. Thoughts, encoragements, anything?

well, a guy that used to be in WRS in FDL had a pair that he successfully had raised quite a few ocellaris babies from. but he is in china now. he did say it was quite a bit of work, but he was able to raise them in his display, at least part of the time. the pair did spawn in the display, and he mentioned he had to transfer the bablies at some point. other than that, i dunno.

best of luck though.

Contact Mako56 of Fox Valley Reefers Club.
I just bought a pair of his Gold Stripe Maroons babies.
I think he has things pretty much figured out raising them so maybe he can be of some help to you.

Check out Wilkerson's book "Clownfish." Basically the whole book is how to raise baby clowns and breed them. It's great.

I would love to buy a couple of baby Ocellaris from you if you manage to keep them alive. :-)

hey Rica, haven't hatched yet, but I'm thinking I will lose this batch, because I'm just not set up yet. From what I hear though, they will breed consistently every three weeks. So, I should have plenty of opportunity. Thanks for checking in and I will keep you posted.

Just curious...

What's going on these days? Have they spawned a 2nd time? I'm assuming you lost the first batch completely?

1st batch lost. they spawned again, but the eggs disappeared (eaten?). Although to my surprise my PO4 level was 1ppm, so that could have been an issue. Haven't spawned a third time yet despite my levels being in better check. How's the cycling coming?
Jon

Not sure how the cycle's coming. Have tons of amonia now, but no Nitrite yet. I'll just wait another week and see what happens.

Good luck!

There are frozen rotifers available, although I've heard that new fry don't take to them as much as live ones - it might be worth a shot - especially if you can just find a small amount of live - mixing the two might "ween" them onto the frozen

- just a thought
