well, we had a little problem yesterday afternoon....

So I got home around 5ish, let out our dogs, and I check the 7g. I had about 10 nudi's on a small zoa frag that I had. They had pretty much mowed it down. well, I am not sure if the zoas tried to defend themselves, but the tank was cloudy, all of my other zoas were closed, and my rics, well..... most had melted away... My two fish were fine. So I freaked, and did a 70% WC. The temp in the tank was 80.3, and I didn't check my Water params, since I was trying to hurry and get the WC started. So, I mixed new SW with a mag 9 to get it to clear quickly, and added it to the tank. I pulled the entire zoa frag out, and did a FW dip to get the nudi's off. I then added carbon to the HOB filter, and doubled the amount I usually use to try to clear the tank up.... I then turned off the lights, and hoped i saved a couple. Well This morning the tank is a little cloudy, the fish were still ok, but a couple rics that were already melting are now gone. :( i lost the large mother ric, and most of the babies. I was able to save about 6 i think. The ones that melted were near the top of the rock and close to the zoa frag that got attacked. I'm kinda at a loss as to what happened. I think it was chem warefare, as while I was pulling water out of the tank, my finger tips were tingling... I just felt sick to my stomach afterwards. I was lucky that was the only casulity, but it was a big one. Hopefully the other ones make it though today. I plan on changing the carbon when I get home tonight. the rics that were on the bottom of the rock are the ones that survived. They were the farthest away from the zoas, and in slightly higher flow.

Man, that sucks. Maybe you can sell some of the nudi's to recover some of your losses.

The FW dip did the 10 in, but I will keep my eyes open for new ones.....

well, the tank is clear. there are about 6 rics left. All were at the bottom of the rock. two of the bigger ones had detached from the rock. fish appear ok, and the zoas are starting to open back up. I am going to change the carbon today, and do another WV this week end.

well, I spoke to soon.... :( my zoas are completely closed, The rics all melted away, and I lost my clown. I did another WC on saturday night, and changed the carbon but it was too late. I still have my clown goby, and my fire and ice zoas, but they are closed. i am going to let the tank settle for a week or so, an check for a mini cycle. I think I will stop into Scott's an pickup some live bacteria today to try an prevent that.

I think you should get your livestock out of that tank. Either get some "good" water from someone's tank or put the livestock in someone else's system for safe keeping. There is no need letting everything melt while trying to figure out what's going on.

yeah, I think I might see If I can get 10g of RO from Scott today, and do a 100% WC, then add the live bacteria.

O LarryW you can put them in my frag tank for a bit i dont have eney thing in the tank yet just to be safe and then you dont heart your big tank by puting them in it. It's your's if you need it

thanks guys. Scott gave me 10g of water from his main display. I am going to do a 100% WC tonight, and dip the LR in the remaining SW, and scrub it real good. I also got some Live bacteria from him as well. I haven't seen anymore in there, and hopefully I can add additional clean crew members next week. The zoa's and LR wouldn't have moved into the 120. Only the rics.... :(

Wow

Wow

Nudi's are hazardous, to bad to hear about the Chem Warefare stuff. Anything I can do let me know. I've thought that nudi's, mantis shrimp and such were better left to themselves. I'd hate to see a repeat melt down maybe you should put the nudi's in there own tank.

I am not sure how they got in there. They must have hitched a ride in on something. Either my LR, or one of my frags. trust me, I was trying to get them out when ever I saw one or two... :D it's just one of those things with reef keeping. ;)

well I figure it probably wouldn't have been as big of an issue in the 120g. that's the risk with a nano.
